Blue Ocean Decom, a new specialist subsea removal and decommissioning solutions provider, has officially launched backed by Alfie Cheyne, one of the offshore industry's most recognised figures and a proven builder of successful international service companies including ACE Winches. The company is led operationally by Managing Director Ross Anderson, who brings extensive field and project leadership experience from major offshore decommissioning campaigns worldwide.
As global decommissioning activity accelerates, operators are increasingly seeking a dependable partner capable of delivering engineered decommissioning solutions, mobilising tailored equipment packages, and deploying experienced technicians who understand the schedule critical nature of subsea removal. Blue Ocean Decom has been built specifically to meet that need.
Chairman Alfie said: “I’ve spent my career backing and building specialist service businesses in the offshore sector, and the pattern is always the same: the market rewards focus. As decommissioning activity grows, subsea removal deserves the same level of specialist attention as any other critical path discipline. That’s the gap Blue Ocean Decom has been built to fill, with Ross leading a team whose entire attention is on doing this one thing extremely well.”
Ross added: “The subsea removal phase is a defining element of any decommissioning campaign, influencing safety, schedule and overall project performance. As the industry scales up, it needs partners who treat this scope with the focus and precision it demands. That's exactly the focus we've built this business around.”
Ageing offshore infrastructure across global energy regions is driving a significant increase in decommissioning demand. Regulators are pushing for timely removal of redundant assets, while operators face increasing scrutiny around planning certainty, environmental responsibility and execution discipline. Decommissioning has moved from being a back-end obligation to a strategic priority, and Blue Ocean Decom has launched to respond directly to that shift.
From executing platform decommissioning, subsea infrastructure removal, asset recovery and dredging operations, we select and deploy the most appropriate cutting, recovery, and excavation technologies to maximise efficiency whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
This focused approach is delivered through advanced engineering and tailored project solutions, supported by a team dedicated to executing complex offshore decommissioning projects. Equipment and personnel are strategically located across key global hubs, allowing rapid mobilisation and project specific deployment.
Effective subsea decommissioning returns the seabed to a safe, compliant condition by removing structures efficiently and with minimal environmental impact – and delivering that outcome is central to the company’s purpose.
Ross added: “A dedicated decommissioning partner to operators and Tier 1 contractors fits where the industry is heading. We’ve built this company to be exactly that.”
Blue Ocean Decom is targeting international growth from launch, with particular focus on the Middle East, Asia Pacific and UK sectors.
